Don't make yourself too important
Don’t make yourself too important.
It may not be fun to read, but you are not on number 1. At least, not when it comes to presenting.
If you really want to grow as a speaker, you have to understand this: Don't make yourself too important.
So who is important?
👉 Your audience.
Why your audience should be number 1.
Imagine these two situations:
1. You are completely focused on how you come across. It's about your performance, your feeling, your dopamine hit after applause.
2. You put your audience center stage. Everything you do is aimed at adding value: inspiring, helping, motivating or instructing.
👉 Which scenario do you think your audience will appreciate?
👉 Which scenario will make your presentation impactful, memorable, and more likely to be asked back?
The answer is simple: scenario 2.
As a speaker, it’s all about connection and value. Your audience wants to feel like your message is meant for them, that you understand them, and that you’re giving them something they can really use.
What order can you follow?
1. Your audience: What do they need? What do they want to hear? How can you really help them?
𝟮️. Your message: How does your story connect with their needs?
𝟯️. You: You are the vehicle to get that message across.
If your audience and message are not central, you will not reach your listeners.
